BOTOX® Cosmetic (Injectable Wrinkle Relaxer) – Dallas, Plano, TX
Quick, safe, and effective, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, and other fine lines to smooth crow’s feet, frown lines, and worry lines. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® relaxes the muscle of the face that cause dynamic wrinkles to give the face a rejuvenated look. The surgeons of Oculoplastic Associates of Texas use BOTOX® on their Dallas and Plano patients for cosmetic enhancements, but it may also be useful for relieving eyelid twitching/spasms (blepharospasm) and facial spasms (hemifacial spasm).
After determining a treatment plan during the initial consultation, the doctor may be able to perform BOTOX® injections right away in the minor procedures room. The treatment only takes about 5 minutes, and patients will be able to leave the office and resume their normal activities immediately. It is advised that strenuous activity be avoided for the first 24 hours. Since very thin needles are used, most patients will only feel minor pain and discomfort, but local anesthesia or numbing creams can be used if needed.
Immediately following the BOTOX® treatment, some patients may experience temporary mild bruising or swelling. Treated wrinkles begin to fade within 72 hours, with continued improvement over the next 5-7 days. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last up to 4 – 6 months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several sessions of BOTOX® treatments, the results may begin to last longer. The doctor may ask the patient to return to the office 1 – 2 weeks after their procedure to monitor the results.
A BOTOX® treatment session may cost between $500 and $1,000, depending on the amount of units needed. During the initial consultation, the doctor will be able to better estimate a patient’s cost after determining their goals and examining the areas needing treatment.
Patients should expect to have mild redness and swelling on their face after the treatment, but this should subside in 1 – 3 days. Our doctors advise patients to avoid laying down or inverting the body for the first few hours after the treatment. Also, patients should avoid touching or massaging the injections sites, as this can cause the treatment to spread to other areas. Patients are encouraged to call our Dallas or Plano office with any questions or concerns.
BOTOX® is a safe form of botulinum toxin (type A) that is approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use. As board-certified ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons, the doctors of Oculoplastic Associates of Texas are able to properly administer BOTOX® treatment in a safe manner. Patients should be careful to tell their doctor about their medical history, including the use of NSAIDs, aspirin, or blood thinners.
In addition to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, BOTOX® is useful for treating eyelid and facial spasms, migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and some types of jaw pain.
