Quick, safe and effective, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines, and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® relaxes the muscle of the face that cause dynamic wrinkles to give the face a rejuvenated look. The surgeons of Oculoplastic Associates of Texas use BOTOX® on their Dallas and Plano patients for cosmetic enhancements, but it may also be useful for relieving eyelid (blepharospasm) and facial spasms (hemifacial spasm).
"Extremely kind and very informative. Excellent with our nine year old. Office is well kept and clean. Staff was friendly and we did not have to wait long to be called back. Maybe 10 minutes. I would definitely recommend Dr. Merritt."- M. / Healthgrades / Feb 01, 2018
"Best Oculoplastic Surgeon in Dallas - Dr. Abbott did an amazing, life changing, eye lid lift surgery!!!! I am more confident and I still don't recognize myself. As she's a true artist!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Sep 21, 2018
"He's the Best - Dr. Merritt is the best, he is understanding, kind and willing to spend the time explaining his procedure to fix your eyes. I picked him out in a google search and it was the best decision I've ever made. My eye lids had dropped from cataract surgery and I had been looking through my eye lashes for about a year. Now I have great vision and quite a pretty look to my eyes. If I ever have any more issues he is the only one I will go to. His nurse is great and the girls at the front desk were kind and helpful. He also has a fantastic surgical crew.nWe need more doctors like Dr. Merritt."- Anonymous / Vitals / Sep 14, 2018
"I had a great experience with Dr Abbott and her staff at the Plano office. I had an upper eyelid blepharoplasty done in the office. I was nervous but they put me right at ease. The procedure was painless and quick. I am more than happy with the results and now only need to use readers! I also found their website to be very easy to navigate."- N.H. / Healthgrades / Aug 02, 2018
"Dr Merritt is not only extremely talented as a surgeon but he is outrageously kind and caring. Chosen as physician of the year by the doctors at Texas Healthcare Presbyterian Hospital Dallas for very good reasons."- T.F. / Yelp / Jun 25, 2018
About The Procedure
After determining a treatment plan during the initial consultation, the doctor may be able to perform BOTOX® injections right away in the minor procedures room. The treatment only takes about 5 minutes and patients will be able to leave the office and resume their normal activities immediately, but it is advised that strenuous activity be avoided. Since very thin needles are used, most patients will only feel minor pain and discomfort, but local anesthesia or numbing creams can be used if needed.
During/After The Procedure
Immediately following the BOTOX® treatment, some patients may experience temporary mild bruising, but the treated wrinkles begin to fade within 72 hours, with continued improvement over the next 5 days. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last up to 4 – 6 months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several sessions of BOTOX® treatments, the results may begin to last longer. The doctor may ask the patient to return to the office 1 – 2 weeks after their procedure to see the results and check for side effects or complications.
A BOTOX® treatment session may cost between $500 and $1,000, depending on the amount of syringes used. During the initial consultation, the doctor will be able to better estimate a patient’s cost after determining their goals and examining the areas needing treatment.
Plan Your Procedure
Patients should expect to have redness and swelling on their face after the treatment, but this should subside in 1 – 3 days. Our doctors advise patients to avoid laying down or inverting the body for the first few hours after the treatment. Also, patients should avoid touching or massaging the injections sites as this can cause the treatment to spread to other areas. Patients are encouraged to call our Dallas or Plano office with any questions or concerns.
BOTOX® is a safe form of botulinum toxin (type A) that is approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use. As board-certified ophthalmologists, the surgeons of Oculoplastic Associates of Texas are able to properly administer BOTOX® treatment. Patients should be careful to tell their doctor about their medical history, including the use of NSAIDs (aspirin), anticoagulants, or blood thinners.
In addition to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, BOTOX® may be useful for treating migraine headaches, excessive sweating, chronic back and jaw pain, and muscle spasms.
